ABOUT THE GROUP
The Little Read Writing Hood is a Dallas-based writing salon that fosters the written word through creative exercises, exploration, and sharing of ideas. They follow a basic pattern at each meeting:
-
Each person reads their version of the homework assignment (assigned the meeting prior) aloud to the group
-
The group gives feedback on each piece
-
An "in class" writing assignment is done within a 20-30 minute time frame during the meeting
-
"In class" is shared and commented on
-
New homework is given; often it stems from the "in class" writing
Voluntary edits are often done after the pieces are emailed to the other group members after the meeting date. This is a great model for other writers to follow and The LRWH has influenced the process of other local writing groups.
The five members of The LRWH met at a creative writing class at SMU, and all it took was one person to organize the first meeting at her home, and the rest is history. They have formed a special bond and created more than interesting pieces of writing, but also a safe place to try different things and explore their talents.
Often, this group goes on fieldtrips and their observations turn into poetry, prose, a short story, or even the beginning of a novel.
Please contact us if you need help with your writing group! We love assisting with the formation of a new group or helping to inspire an existing one.
